Guangdong has been a renowned tea-producing region since ancient times, characterized by mountainous and hilly terrain with predominantly red soil, making it highly suitable for tea tree cultivation. The local tea is harvested with one bud and one leaf or one bud and two leaves, resulting in high-quality Guangdong Dayeqing, which stands out as a premium type of mature leaf tea among yellow teas. Compared to bud teas and tender leaf teas, the production of Guangdong Dayeqing is larger, and its price is relatively affordable.

Production Process of Guangdong Dayeqing

The best quality Guangdong Dayeqing is harvested in April, with picking standards of one bud and one leaf or one bud and two leaves. During harvesting, leaves should not be picked in rainy weather, and diseased or old leaves should be avoided. The tea leaves undergo five key processes: withering, panning (high-temperature roasting), rolling, sealed yellowing, and drying. Withering can be either sun withering or indoor withering, with indoor withering taking about 4 hours. Although this method is time-consuming, it yields better quality. Sealed yellowing is a critical step in the production process, where tea leaves are placed in a container and covered with cloth, allowing for a yellowing period of about 12 to 24 hours depending on humidity and temperature. Finally, the tea leaves are dried, completing the production process.
